History Established in 1948. Lyle Tuttle's tattoo career spans seven decades and began here in San Fran in 1948. His 7th St. shop ran from 1960-'89 and was a hotspot for the Summer of Love generation & where he tattooed many stars including The Allman Brothers, Joan Baez and Janis Joplin. His cover feature on Rolling Stone magazine on October 1st 1970 helped catapult him to international fame. My first tattoo! – I had my first tattoo done by Shannon at Lyle Tuttle and I am very pleased with it. I walked in with a Dali painting and left with a colorful butterfly behind my right shoulder. The entire process took about two hours, and the price was very reasonable. Getting a tattoo is a very personal experience, and if you are looking to get something original then I would recommend this studio.
