An institution, not panacea! – Listen people, it's just a nice burger joint and bar - don't visit for anything but bar and grill style service. Don't visit for anything but hamburgers and fries and beer. And if, like others, you have a problem eating your burger off a 4" paper plate - you guessed, it... over-rated – it's ok but i would drive across town for one. there are to many good places with good service instead of a so-so place with so-so service.
I Don't Get It! – The legendary hamburgers at the Lions Tap are probably the most overrated burgers I've ever experienced. The Convention Grill, and, yes, even White Castle's, are much beter. The French fries are out-of-the-freezer type, and have no taste or character whatsoever. I don't understand all the hype about this place. It's lousy, and certainly not worth a trip.
The Best – Lion's Tap is a very nice little bar with really good burgers. The cost is minimal and the food is great. The only downside is they only serve burgers and fries, so if you don't want burgers and fries then this isn't the place to go.
Anticipation! – Having heard about the famous Lions Tap burgers, we found ourselves near the Tap during a weekend drive. So, we searched out the joint, waited with scores of others for a table (while many dirty tables went unattended) and were finally seated. Poor service, unadorned mediocre burgers on a dry bun and those little plates ... What's to like?
Pre-fab burgers – Eaten there once, probably the last time. Pre-cooked burgers brought to your table on paper plates barely larger than the bun. If you order fries, they come in a small container that makes it hard to apply ketchup. Maybe a good place to go after the "bars close"
first and last – The burgers were mediocre at best, served on a too small plate. Soft drinks were expensive. My stop there was two stops in one my first and certainly my last.
Constant favorite – Lion's Tap is a very friendly place to eat. The staff is very personal and are a fixture in Eden Prairie. The burgers are perfect. My favorite is a double cheese with fried onions. Oh and don't forget the french freis simply yet delicious.
