About

The idea for Lefty's came from the over-abundance of mom & pop shops we grew up with in and around Chicago - ahh the ease of ordering a deep dish or grabbing a dog, a bag of fries . . . a beef sandwich; and ALL of the happy feelings that came along. Fortunately, we soon tired of missing those mouth-watering & comforting flavors of our second-city past and began spending hours in our little california kitchens. We conjured up recipes and force fed our friends, trying to re-create those pies haunting our taste buds... With so many wonderfully unique Chicagoland pizzerias, we could not begin to compare what we are creating with any one particular spot. What we do claim - we strive to bring you

From deep-dish pizza pies to hot dogs, San Diegans craving Chi-town street eats don't have to travel beyond North Park. – In Short Craving an authentic Windy City meal? Hit up this corner pizza joint where hungry crowds dine on thick- or thin-crust pizzas and Chicago dogs. The deep dish is a perfect combination of crisp cornmeal crust, chunky tomato sauce and creamy cheese; choose from several available toppings, including homemade sausage or a blend of spicy peppers. After day four of pizza, switch up and order the chopped chicken salad with bacon, blue cheese and avocado.

Authentic Deep Dish and Tasty Combos – The deep dish is not as thick as you get back home, but the flavor is authentic for this native Chicagoan. Italian beef sandwiches are lacking in flavor, but make it a combo and you are better off. They use great Chicago italian sausage. Lefty's also has hands down the best french fries in San Diego County. Service is super friendly and very fast.

Don't understand the hype (or the queues!) This place always has a long queue, so we thought it was a shoe-in for good pizza. The bf is not a big fan of deep dish pizza, so we ordered the thin crust. They told us it would be ready in 45 minutes, so we left and amused ourselves elsewhere, and then returned to pick it up...cold! Apparently it took nowhere near 45 mins, but too bad for us. Anyway we got the pizza home and proceeded to bite (or shall I say crunch?) our way through the pie. It was absolutely abysmal -- the crust tasted exactly like a saltine. Maybe I was hormonal or something, but it was so disappointing (and I had been so looking forward to it after a lousy day) that I almost cried. Top 5 worst pizzas of my life. Forgave and forgot, thinking the deep dish might be another story. Nope. Greasy thick pizza, not even with the right bite or chew to the crust. Sob! Two stars given because they do have a cheery, nice staff.

deeeeeeep dish pizza Lefty's is a casual pizza joint fashioned after the mom-and-pop pizzerias found all over Chicago. The average 35-40 minutes wait is a small price to pay for the quality pie you're about to taste. The Meaty Pie (sausage, pepperoni, meatball, Italian beef) is a meat lover's fantasy and the South Sider (beef, green pepper, onion and hot giardiniera, a spicy blend of pickled veggies) will outcompete your favorite spicy dish. There are also several choices for vegetarians, including the Spinach Supreme and the Farmers Market. My personal favorite: The Great Sausage Pie. Lefty's also offers pizza by the slice, as well as salads, sandwiches and a number of tasty appetizers.
