Leased here for 2 years. When I moved in the walls were dirty, clearly needed painting, and the ceiling was dusty. The building itself leaked water every time it rained above the door creating a large puddle of water and that wasn't even from pouring rain. Water spots on the walls and ceiling when I moved in. I haven't rented through this agency because they make it impossible. I realize the rental housing market is hot right now but something with this company seems amiss. A house just came on the market last night and sent out in their email listing update this morning. I set up a viewing of the property for the earliest possible date last night and emailed them separately. I rented a house from leasingandmanagement.com for 2 years. I am a 53 years old married adult and not a college kid who would trash a house. Upon moving out i inquired about my deposit and told by leasingandmanagement.com that they had up to 30 days to return my deposit FYI. 4 weeks later i received a bill for over $5000 for "damage" to the house. LeasingandManagementLLC (formerly Rent Charleston) is an exceedingly substandard property management firm. IF you unfortunately rent from them, please be advised that they will attempt to take a very significant amount of your security deposit. In fact, they have a Secondary Review Committee for tenant victims to request a re-evaluation of the withholding of the deposit--which tells you that they routinely DO NOT fully return security deposits. I rented from Rent Charleston for almost 2 years. I had to get out of my lease early and Chris S**** has been nothing but extremely helpful. Every time I had some problem with my unit, it was fixed within 24 hours. I moved out sometime in January and had to pay rent up until March while he could find someone else to take over the unit. When he told me that I was no longer responsible for rent, I received my deposit and prorated rent back within 5 business days. UNethical, UNcommunicative, money grubbing slumlords are all they are. $20 a month for a air filter I can get at Walmart for less than $10, policy changes with no notice, constant property manager changes. Unfortunately, the comments of ********* ******** are not an accurate depiction of her complaint. The rent for her unit was a total of $1,320 per month. The air filters were included with the price of the monthly rent and delivered to her front door every month, not a separate charge on top of her agreed upon rental rate (as per the lease she signed and on file). Don't do it. I rented from Rent Charleston for 2 years, and I would never do it again. They don't care about their tenants, only about making money. During my two years, I had somewhere between 4-5 property managers which shows they can't keep employees due to the toxic atmosphere created by management. After reviewing this account, our records show the unit was in excellent condition at the move-in inspection and no damages were reported. There were pictures taken to document the inspection. This report was signed off by the tenant present at that time of the inspection. There were no requests made for any repairs the first year of occupancy. There were late fees incurred on 7 different occasions due to past-due balances of rent. These fees were waived in an attempt to appease the tenant who was quite argumentative. The te... read more
