A staple of Vietnamese cuisine in Old Oakland, Le Cheval has been serving patrons for over a quarter of a century. Their vast, decorative dining hall is ideal for large gatherings, as is their "Bo 7 Mon" meal, seven courses of beef cooked and served at the table. Le Cheval features an extensive menu, serving specialties in beef, poultry, fish, salad, and rice, along with a full bar. If the menu size seems daunting, there are always favorites to rely on, like the claypot fish or appetizing Imperial Rolls.

great place i've only been here once, but my experience was awesome. the staff was really friendly and the food was great. and if you are feelign brave you can even try the "snake juice." snake juice is an alcoholic beverage. i'm not too sure what exactly is in there, but if you see he bottle there are a bunch of snakes floating around in it.
Sometimes Hype is Right Le Cheval has enjoyed accolades and hype for quite some time now. If you don't mind waiting for a table and a loud, crowded dining area, you have to try this Vietnamese restaurant. Even though it's not the most authentic, the clay pots, entrees, and specials are culinary delights. They have cheap and very fast lunch combination, perfect for the work week. PROS: Quite tasty! CONS: Can be a long wait for a table.
Good Food, good portions, affordable pricing Great French/Vietnamese cuisine. The place is small and parking can be difficult, so best to get there early if it's a busy Friday/Saturday. The place typically turns into a kind of dance club on some weekend, usually rented out by a group, so if you prefer dinner, but not the club atmosphere, go during the weekdays (Monday - Thursday).
A well-oiled machine Some have complained that the service at Le Cheval is bad. Not so--if the servers seem unfriendly, it is only because they are extremely efficient (though I've always found them to be polite as well). The service is extremely fast, and tag-teaming is a way of life. Really, it can be a pleasure to watch. As for the food, they offer a wide range of Vietnamese foods, and the quality seems to be uniformly high. I especially recommend the claypot fish and the salty calimari. awesome restaurant! This restaurant is great! Usually try coming in for a Saturday lunch and try their yellow and green curry! The restaurant is situated in a nice area as well.
The Best Place to Eat in Downtown Oakland Le Cheval is fantastic French/Vietnamese restaraunt. It can get pretty busy, so make reservations or go during the week. Try the lemongrass chicken, the salty prawns, or the springrolls. Bon Apetit!
My parents have been taken us to Le Cheval since 1989! Our favorite place to enjoy dinner!
There’s a reason this place has been here as long as it has. The food is just really, really delicious.
Very good pork chops and beef with green beans. The seafood hot pot was also pretty tasty. Loved the formal dining w/ a sports bar ambiance. A pleasant divergence for those in need of something different.
