In 1977, a Chevrolet dealer became aware of the need for vehicle interiors and heard that specially fitted trucks were needed to replace the van-type vehicles that were being used in everyday commerce. Providing the ability to install customer-designed interiors in vehicles would give the opportunity to sell both the vehicles and the installation service, so LDV was conceived.
