ZERO Stars STAY AWAY – 2 hours free parking is not free, it’s a SCAM! I parked at the LAZ Bellevue Gardens facility in Newport, Rhode Island on 6/21/25. The sign said 2 hours complimentary parking when validated by one of the stores in the plaza. I validated my slip at the “A Market” in the plaza. When I departed, 2 hours and 32 minutes later, I was charged $36, with no rebate for 2 hours of complimentary parking. I backed up from the gate and re-entered the A Market to validate again. My experience was very similar to other negative reviews. I expected to be charged for 1 hour of parking but was charged for 4 hours instead. The signage in the lot indicated that parking would be validated for 3 hours if I made a purchase at the shopping plaza. Several members of my party purchased dog treats at “Wag Nation”, a store in the plaza, and we got a validation ticket from the clerk at the register. If you can avoid parking here, please do so. I’ve utilized this parking lot numerous times and have never had an issue until today. I’ve always been told that residents of Newport receive 3 hours of free parking in this lot, but today upon leaving (well within the 3 hour time limit) I was told by the attendant that I owed $48. Even after explaining that if resident parking wasn’t honored, I had a validated ticket, he refused and almost bullied me into paying before leaving.
