About

Founded in 1976 by entrepreneur Lash Stevenson, Lash's Place continues as the quintessential neighborhood barber shop, albeit, one with an edge. _Lash opened his barber shop after cutting hair as a hobby for years. He started with family and friends when he was 13, and got a lot more practice during a stint in the Navy ( crewcuts a specialty! ). He attended Long Beach Barber School in the late '60s, but ended up in sales for a number of years until settling into a lifestyle that afforded more time with his young family. Taking a cue from his past, he incorporated as his mascot, Charly Foxe ( read the RF story ), a character made popular by TV talk show host Steve Allen and now immortalized i

The BEST BARBER in the Bay Area! I've been going for many years and continue to be a very satisfied customer at the young age of 70!

Don't waste time with this pompous jerk First thing you should know is that this business is by appointment ONLY !!!. Don't walk in expecting to get a haircut anytime soon as their appointment schedule is booked up solid.

Don't waste time with this pompous jerk First thing you should know is that this business is by appointment ONLY !!!. Don't walk in expecting to get a haircut anytime soon as their appointment schedule is booked up solid. Second, it doesn't help if the first thing Lash askes is "whatta want ?". Third, to add insult to injury, when I said I I was sorry, I didn't have time to make an appointment ( I needed a haircut during my lunch hour) --- Lash chimed in (loudly): "I guess you can't afford us !" I would recommend anyplace else other than this guy whose customer service was left behind somewhere in the '70s

A Small Business That Defines the Character of San Mateo Since the 70s, Lash has been giving great haircuts in his old style vintage barber shop. The place is filled with penants, Elvis collectibles, sports memorabilia and the like. His mascot, a carved wooden fox named Charley, has stood outside for decades. At first he was located in downtown San Mateo, but the high rents forced him out. Luckily he found a new place on Palm Avenue, surrounded by other small businesses. Getting a haircut here is certainly a local experience, and one not to be missed.
