THIS IS ACTUALLY A NEGATIVE 5 STAR I leased an apartment for my 18 year old daughter in 2022, before she had her walk thru at the end of the lease, I received a delinquency notice for charges they added to my daughter's account "6" days before. Common area is the responsibility of all three students and each student is charged for whatever they want to charge at the end of the lease. The Retreat is the biggest scam for college students in Columbia. Not only is resident health and safety not taken into account, they completely overcharge every resident upon moveout. While a resident, my truck's window was smashed in. When I went to the office voicing the complaint and following the police officers instructions, they said the cameras and gates don't work and they couldn't show me the footage even if they did. My sister and I applied for an apartment with this company. We paid $100 a piece application fee and never heard back. I called and spoke to Chris before a decision was made. Neither one of us received a denial letter at all. With the application fee being as expensive as it is I would expect feedback from the application. Chris stated one he reviewed it he would call me back. I even confirmed to make sure he was looking at the correct application before we ended the call. The management of these apartments is really lacking. I moved out in July of 2017, and two whole years later I am still dealing with management issues and move out charges. More specifically, I was required to pay nearly $500 in move-out charges, that should have been charged to my former roommate, just for them to complete a reference check for the apartment I am currently living in. PARENTS BEWARE: If your student intends on living at The Retreat, they will require THE PARENT to provide YOUR date of birth, SS #, Drivers Lisence #, your full name and address....and even YOUR tax ID #. For ultimate security, they keep it locked in a file drawer in the back office. Wow! The Retreat is nice, and secure, but if you've ever had your ID stolen, you'd know this is not smart. I told my kid to find something else.
