I travel a lot and usually don’t have high expectations with these budget hotels but this place is low down the list of places I’ve stayed. Chose this place for a night in Portland as a last minute stopover on the way to Acadia, so we had limited options. Lots of homeless hanging around at night. The area around had a smell like an old subway, maybe cause it’s close to the bus depot. The location of the La Quinta is really its selling point. It is fairly close to down town and provides easy access to some of the shops and areas of Portland. The rooms were fairly clean, but everything was a little outdated and worn. It also felt like a rougher area at night, which made us a little nervous. It seemed to be ok though. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. The free breakfast is not worth it, not even the coffee is good. The pool is near train tracks in the parking lot. The location itself is deceiving. None of the rear building doors work, the room key cards constantly have to be fixed and the rooms are smaller than they appear. Also, there is a fee to park. I could go on, but I think you get the picture, keep looking, pay the extra few dollars to stay elsewhere because this place is not worth it.
