I’ve walked by this place a bajillion times and was always intrigued by the chalkboard placed outside with their specialties. Today, I finally cracked and bought the veal & dill meatballs. They were fantastic. Price point was a little higher ($14), but I’m happy to pay a higher price point for a more bespoke item at a local shop. These were fantastic with some pasta, and I’m sure I’ll be back again.
I have been coming to the store for almost two decades even though now that I don't live on the UES, it's not always convenient. The reason is simple: the store is unique and definitely stands out by the quality of the meats it offers.
Honestly I gave you too chances to confirm the steak quality. First time I tried and cooked it,Itsnot good. 2nd time I brought it to the best cheff of the restaurant near by and the quality of your meat to pay $30 a lbs its not even close. Either you get the best steak quality for that price or lower your prices. This steak its not worth it more than $15. You have the same quality like every supermarket, so stop ripping people off.
Update May 2026: Just wanted to say I still love this place. They also deliver within the neighborhood. Prepared foods are very good, too. Simchick is a wonderful neighborhood butcher with helpful, knowledgeable employees and great meats as well as prepared foods. I’ve been a dozen times and am always happy with the quality of everything I buy. Our neighborhood would be better if we still had more places like Simchick’s. Fortunately, they make it easy to support them.
Ask for a pork roast with skin on. The Mexican butcher had a solution. Did it excellent! Great success! Thank You so much!
