Thanks Koyo – I have known the owners for many years, the original owners and the boys now who run/own the restaurant...I love this place, but it's the food that does stand out... The tempura is very light (only place I will go except for my mom's); the tonkatsu is the way it should be; the sukiyaki will warm you up on a cold UTAH night; the sashimi is sliced the way it's suppose to be; the gohan is fantastic...
Best Japanese restaurant in Utah!! /they do a excellent job. I recommend it to all – Anyone who has been or lived in Japan will appreciate Koyo . Food and service is excellent. Many items on their menu. Call ahead, sit back and enjoy the food and company you keep. I highly recommend this to all.
Best Japanese in town. – My dad grew up here and he used to go to Mikado since he was a kid. When he comes back to town I now take him to Koyo. He prefers the traditional food prep we grew up on. Koyo is the best traditional, non-sushi restaurant in town. Nobody is even close, Kyoto is a distant second. I say non sushi, b/c I've given up on eating good stuff around here, and havn't tried it. A measure of a good Japn restaurant is the tempura. If they have light, non battery tempura that isn't soaked in oil you know your at t... read more
YummyYummy* Revised – I have been going to Koyo since it opened 20+ years ago. It has the freshest food, best quality Japanes food I have ever had. Its hard to pick my favorite, but the tempura and steak terriyaki is the best. The sushi is very well presented. The lunches and dinner are busy so allow enough time that you can enjoy your experience. If you are in the mood to just relax, have some great food in a beautiful atmoshere then Koyo is the place to go. It is perfect anytime, whether you are just coming down from Alta,... read more
Traditional food in relaxing atmosphere – Having lived in Japan for a while it's been my quest to find traditional, quality Japanese food wherever I have lived in the US. Koyo is one of those restaurants. As others have commented, the parking is a bit limited and the service is sometimes slower than expected. The ambience is "average" when compared to other authentic restaurants, but quiet and relaxing. However, quite frankly, the highest point for me is the authenticity and quality of the food. The full range of traditional... read more
A Hidden Sushi Treasure – With authentic Japanese atmosphere, and food as ethnically precise, Koyo is a hidden treasure in Holladay suburbia. I have been to my share of sushi bars, and the quiet, relaxing personal atmosphere of this wonderful restaurant coupled with the purely delicious food will keep me a faithful customer for life!
One of the more authentic of the Japanese restaurants in the Salt Lake area. – In Short It's a popular place, so reservations are recommended, as are socks in good repair, since you are able to kick off your shoes and sit on cushioned seats at low tables. Out in the "burbs," Koyo has a largely local clientele. Residents in the area enjoy authentic Japanese food they don't have to drive downtown for. This quaint place specializes in generous portions of salmon teriyaki, and light, fluffy shrimp and vegetable tempura, and Suki... read more
Gracious Japanese Inn – This is a very traditional style Japanese restaurant. The Tatami rooms ar the best way to enjoy the Japanese country inn style experience. Not a lot of flashy theatrics but instead, a good, comfortable inviting place to dine.
Good Food, okay service – The food is always great. The selection of sushi (sashimi and maki-sushi) leaves something to be desired. My only major complaint is that the service is always slow - even when there is hardly any guests there.
