“Window” actually means “wind eye” and originally referred to just the hole cut in the wall. Variations of the Latin word “fenestra” were adopted to identify a glass-covered wind eye. “Defenestration” was created as a term to describe what started the Thirty Years' War when Protestants tossed two Catholic representatives out the fenestra into the moat at the castle Hradshin in Prague in 1618. It means “to toss out the window.”
