History Established in 1911. The once renowned Hotel Kimball was built by William Kimball and formally opened on St. Patrick's Day in 1911. Built in what was the affluent residential neighborhood of Chestnut and Bridge Streets, the Kimball offered 309 rooms, a dining-room capacity for 450, a 22-foot-high banquet hall for 350 guests, and, in 1912, room rates from "$1.50 to $3.50 per day". A 1911, former top-of-the-line luxury hotel that hosted Presidents like FDR and JFK; also hosted WBZ, America's first commercial radio station; and in the 1940s, was one of the first "Sheraton" properties in the U.S. The Kimball's marble-columned and leather-seated lobby looks much the same as they did in 1911 and are reminiscent of grand old hotels like the Waldorf in New York City.
