Hellenic Triumph – I am so excited that Kefi opened in my neighborhood. The octopus is the best I have ever had and the branzino is delicious and priced at $15 might be the best bargain in New York. Kefi also surprised me with few twist on the classics, like an open spinach pie and light manti with a tasty chesse sauce. The all Greek wine list is still very broad, but the waiter are so well versed in explaining each bottle. I love the white and blue room and even the front bar is attractive to have a moderately priced ouzo w... read more
Better than Astoria – I was shocked to go to Kefi and find out that they have all the Greek classics, but at a fraction of the price that found elsewhere. I used to travel to Astoria to dine at the local authentic tavernas, but I guess I will not anymore. The octopus was so well cooked that I went back two nights later to retaste. I love the lamb shank and the orzo that comes with the dish. Even the moussaka striked me as better abd fresher than the ones found elsewhere. In addition, at Kefi they have a good size wine list, ... read more
My Big Fat Greek Restaurant – I love Greek food and when I heard that Michael Psilakis converted Onera into a casual Taverna serving his mother's food I gather few friends to check it out. Unfortunately, we got there after the restaurant was reviewed by The New York Times and we had to wait at the bar for a table since the restaurant does not take reservations. We ordered some spreads while we were waiting and the eggplant and taramolsalata were truly first rate. At the table, we ordered the meatballs and they were so soft a... read more
WELL WORTH THE WAIT – I read about Kefi in New York Magazine and The New York Times. After such glowing reviews I did not expect to find a table, but upon arrival they suggested to me and my guest that we had a drink at the bar, so they could arrange a table for us in half hour time. The cocktails were delicious and at $ 6 to $ 7 each reasonably priced. After 35 minutes we were seated in the back dining room. It was crowded, but quite charming, almost reminiscent of the a house in Santorini. The food is nothing short of spec... read more
Charming ambience, decent food... HORRIBLE wait. – Unfortunately, Kefi is no longer a best kept secret & with their recent amazing writeups in New York mag, the place is now swarmed. They don't take reservations so the wait is long and crowded, and frankly, pretty drafty in the small, front bar area. I took my Greek friend and basically, he wasn't impressed. I, however, was charmed with the decor in the front bar area. While the ambience of the dining area was nice, the tables were simply on top of one another - making it di... read more
Straight from the Crete – I was looking for a restaurant with a great selection of fish and I stumbled on newly opened Kefi. My friend and I thought that we tasted the best octopus in New York at Kefi. The branzino and the swordfish were divine and luckily their were priced both in the mid-teens. The wine list surprised us as well because it was full of great Greek whites for under $30. The room is charmingly decorated with white and blue wals setting a Hellenic mood. Unfortunately, there was quite a long wait for dinner sin... read more
Wonderful New Restaurant – I love to have Kefi in my neighborhood. Michael Psilakis take on traditional Greek food is great and the ambiance transport you back to a Greek Island. The servers are so eager to please and the prices are so low that I have already dined there twice the week they opened. I hope we will always be able to find a table
Terrific Neighborhood Spot – The new Kefi offers incredibly delicious food. I love the spreads and the pork, but everything was exceptional considering the reasonable prices. The dining room is so pretty and romantic and the staff was very gracious and professional. The wine list is so affordable that we ordered even dessert wines with our ice creams. Right now Kefi is the best kept secret on the Upper west Side, but I am afraid that it will be discovered soon.
greek as it gets – As a cypriot, I've longed for a greek restaurant that would bring me back to my mothers' kitchen. My quest is over... Kefi not only transported me back to my homeland - with food that has me longing for more - but also reminded me of the hospitality that Greeks are known for. I have been a fan of Mr. Psilakis - our champion of contemporary greek food - for some time, but at kefi he shows us the glory of refined village comfort food. Simple, direct flavors with pristine ingredients that pay homage to our bi... read more
