Katherine Merkel no longer does quality, professional work. She overcharges and does not take pride in her work. Her workshop is in the basement of her home and is not clean. She charged us 3 times what her estimate was, and the work was poor. We had to take the dress to another seamstress to fix her mistakes.

I had our daughters' wedding dress hanging in our closet for 14 years. After she had three boys, they were blessed with a little girl. We decided to have her wedding dress made into a baptismal gown, and we were so fortunate to find Katherine. .....dress, Katherine to the rescue~ and reasonably as well. Katherine took the time to practice the sculpting on a different piece of material so she could show me how the dress would look by hemming from the bottom. She had to cut off all of the designers hem and redo it all along with altering the train and waistline peaks to keep the integrity of the dress THIS WOULD NOT HAVE WORKED BY the waistline or corset .She hemmed in from the sides and saved the character of the dress and rebeaded where needed. We purchased a prom dress that was a couple of sizes too big.The dress is beautiful and it was the only one they had. We were informed that we could just replace the zipper with a corset very reasonably and as far as the length just raise it up by waistline. Sounded easy enough so we bought it under the typical terms~ as is with no returns. Turns out a corset would not have worked because of the beading style. She is fun to talk to. One of the best things she does is she goes into great detail about what she works on. She is fast, does a good job and is honest. If a job takes less time than she quoted she lowers the price!

I was absolutely thrilled with my experience with Katherine's Design and Alterations. I gave her 9 pairs of pants to be hemmed and she had them all done by the next day. They were done perfectly! I'll definitely come to her again in the future. Thanks for awesome service!

A great big thank you to Katherine and her team of alteration specialists! They are SO kind and helpful. I had a wedding dress that needed to be taken in, hemmed and bustled. What I didn't realize was how difficult a job it was. I have bags for my vacuum that are 10 ft tall. In time they become worn and torn and need to be replaced. They are very expensive. I called Katherine and asked if she would be able to repair them. She asked me to bring them so she could see what could be done. Katherine was able to patch the holes and repair seams that were beginning to open up. She did a wonderful job they worked like new. I just picked up my custom designed dress from Katherine. The professional way in which she managed my project truly impressed me. She helped me to choose some beautiful silk fabric and the dress fit so perfectly that I don't want to take it off! It feels luxurious and I am very comfortable in it. She knows so much about figure types and color theory, so I felt very comfortable with having her design me a dress.
