The Kamehachi on Wells, in Old Town, is supposed to be a Chicago institution, and bills itself as Chicago's original sushi bar since 1967. I don't understand why it doesn't carry itself better, because if it did the place would be packed all the time. The sushi here is great, the service not so much and I have experienced a lot of bad service over the years. Kamehachi offers consistently great food. The sushi is dee-lish, the tempura is just...YUMMY, the salmon teriyaki is super flavorful, and the vibe is on point. While there are other Japanese restaurants in the city with more daring or trendier menus and just OK food, Kamehachi never fails to impress.

Great Sushi! Located in Old Town, Kamehachi is a great place to get specialty maki rolls. I would definitely try to get seated upstairs if possible. The atmosphere is quite personable and romantic with beautiful wooden decor. If you are in a hurry and just want to grab a bite to eat, then you can sit downstairs at the sushi bar. I would highly recommend Kamehachi. You won't be disappointed!

We told her 5 people were sharing this boat and she wasn't sure there'd be enough. Please! This boat will serve 20 people! Plus, I have to be a food snob, it's not the best sushi by any means.
