Dr. Allen was a fresh breath of air for me after spending 7+ years on a host of meds for conditions I did not have, prescribed by another psychiatrist. He successfully weaned me off the medications and provided safe alternatives (beta blockers instead of xanax, etc.). He regularly spent 30 minutes with me and was interested in more than symptom management. He practiced with an abundance of caution and was incredibly conservative in his recommendations. Compassionate but heavily prescribing several medications and after 6 months of hair loss and array of pills I wasn’t sure what was up or down. Going in for alcohol abuse inpatient at API, great within a week, went to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for support , and on following visits with Dr. Allen, diagnosed with bipolar for which I was prescribed numerous drugs till I didn’t know what was up or down. Absolute worst experience scheduling this appointment and front end staff does not care and is RUDE!!! Dr is pretty good.not friendly but knows his stuff.
Well educated doctor, poor appointment availability. I have seen 5 psychiatrists in my 40 years on this earth and honestly thought Dr. Allen was okay until I moved on and had a couple decent doctors to compare him to. I have personally witnessed him behave in a elitest manner towards his staff and women and found he really does not practice therapy in any form other than medication management so if you are looking for psychotherapy or someone that shows empathy and compassion look elsewhere.
