As a mortgage broker, I had a mutual client with whom we were working on a property purchase in February 2024. He did very little on the file despite receiving retainers from the client. Be aware. This lawyer waited until the absolute last minute to start the file despite having plenty of time. The lender begged for documents and he refused to send until day of close. His clerks were ill informed and his communication was terrible. Because of his refusal to start the file on time, my client was forced to close 4 days late forcing them to pay out of pocket for extra costs. His fees were not transparent. John Polets is an amazing lawyer; he saved my client buyer from paying tens of thousands dollars. Also, he convinces the sellers lawyers to cooperate with us to get a good time period extension to closing date. John is always there, during weekends and after working hours to give proper advice and solutions. I recommend his office service to any real estate transaction as he is second to none.
Unresponsive and unprofessional. We had to switch to another lawyer in the late stages of a complex, time-sensitive transaction when it became clear that our interests were not protected. This firm did nothing but cause us extreme stress.
Tried to arrange a conversation with John about some matters, as my grandfather has maybe a short month left at life. I felt like I was being talked at versus listening and understanding our situation. Customer service needs to be better especially with families who are going through losing a relative. Needless to say I will not be contacting back and looking elsewhere for help.
