In 1945 Gaspare Maiorana bought an apple orchard on seven mile road in Livonia Michigan. It included a home and a roadside stand. There on the street corner, he sold apples and seasonally grown produce to friends and neighbors. Fifteen years later Gaspare brought his son Joe Sr. into the family business.
