Go for the drinks & the company The food is good enough, but you really go here for the drinks and the company. A local's favorite where the drinks are strong and the company is boisterous. It's great fun on a Friday or Saturday night and a definite must to get your night started right.

old This place is old. And it's great. Dating all the way back to the 20's the place feels old, but is really cool. The food is a little expensive but is very nice on state street.

Joe's Cafe is your classic American diner. The food comes in substantial portions, the waiters are peppy and knowledgeable, and the service is quick. Prices are reasonable as well. An ideal breakfast/lunch stop for a family with kids.

Great local hangout.. – You're living in the town where people don't eat, and you want comfort food - what do you do? Head to Joe's. This is good American food, and they stay open late, I think dinner 'ends' around 10pm and the 'appetizers' 11pm, but they're always pouring those strong drinks at the bar. I love that the wait staff are wearing shirt and tie, and look like they might be the original staff from 1928. You can eat an absurdity for $30 there - and I don't advise it. We took home at least the next days' lunch and d... read more

Predictable. Inexpensive. Comfort food. Joe's Cafe sits in Old Town Santa Barbara on the corner of State and East Cota streets. The institution has been in Santa Barbara since it opened its doors in 1928 and features an impressive variety of food. I elect to try the Philly Cheese steak sandwich, since one, it's an unwritten rule I made up to try every Philly Cheese steak I come across and two, they're like snowflakes, no two places make them the same. The sandwich comes with fries and I top it off with a light amber ale, Ams... read more

Breakfast sandwich was delicious. – The California avocados made this sandwich, one crispy sourdough. Egg cooked just right- fried with a bit of runny yolk still! And their homemade salsa was very good. My in laws got the huervos Mexican which was big enough to share and include homemade tortillas. My wife had the Benedict, which had great hollandaise sauce. She commented it was one of the best sauces she's ever had in an eggs bene, which is quite a compliment from a woman who has eggs bene any chance she can get.

Suprisingly good Southern food – Didn't know what to expect and just went in for dinner. Had a drink and the Special of the night... Ham Hocks! Wow! Being from Louisiana originally, it needed some added kick (i.e. Tabasco), but the ham and beans were EXCELLENT!
