WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER - VIOLENT CHEF – The chef and waitress threatened to HIT me upon exiting. Yes - you read that right - the chef waited for our table outside and came right up to my face and threatened to "shove his foot up my ass." Mind you - I'm a successful, well-traveled and eaten New Yorker - not a drunk NYU student. Let's get that straight. I'm sure you want to know why they were such rude disgusting people (and CLEARLY Joe and Jill, I'm NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT THINKS SO!). Read on to discover why I was threat... read more

Fried chick peas! – I loved this place. Cozy, friendly and everything was great. From the fried chickpea starter to a really impressive pork belly. If I lived in Manhattan I'd be there all the time.

Go Here – Tucked into a cozy space on the lower east side, JoeDoe restaurant takes pride in their inventive menu, moving the art of the gastropub forward. With a seasonally changing menu, there’s still time to catch their winter specials, including flatbreads with pesto or fresh Florida frog legs. I split these two appetizers, which were both very tasty, especially if you don’t have a problem with your frog legs being attached to a torso, not letting you forget that yes, you are eating a frog. For the main course, I split th... read more

Great, original food, don't glower at the customers! – We were a foursome, not crowded and we all LOVED the food. We tried a little of everything, specials, etc. and everything was wonderful. The dishes were not the same thing you see on every menu in the city, and it's a great, idiosyncratic place. But - the chef/owner glared at us from the stove, leaving us to guess what was our infraction - not appreciating enough (we were effusive), asking for meat to be heated up (not cooked more), etc. Rule one of business, don't show ... read more

Great date spot! – I'd heard about this new restaurant but like most NYers I was little skeptical. I mean, how much different can it be? I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. The owner was really cool and the food was amazing! There was this one girl there who seemed to be doing EVERYTHING, from the bar to hostess but she was really nice too. My date had the beef and I had these hush puppy thingys that were delish! I'm definitely going back!

Serious Food, Unpretentious Atmosphere – I am blessed to live in JoeDoe's neighborhood, so have frequented this new establishment through two seasons! I was very sad to see the summer menu fall with the leaves, but what evolves next keeps me coming back. Everything's farm fresh, and the staff can tell you where they specially source everything, even the milk. Have had both brunches & dinners-- clever & delicious flavor pairings. Cocktails are really yummy ("Kool Place!") and fun to hang out at their bar. Dessert is to die fo... read more

Just great food – Finally, I was able to follow the honey custard from Joe's old place to his new place (ie JoeDoe). The chef's perspective is apparent: refined but unpretentious dishes and casual but quality service. The menu changes really often, so it's not the kind of place to go "in the mood" for your favorite dish, but once you know that, it's exciting to experience new dishes all the time. Recommend the Veev cured scallop, heirloom tomato salad and cod entree. The flavor combinations are unexpected and never disappoin... read more

New Spin on Traditional American – Very impressed with flavor combinations and new twists on some classic american cuisine. Highly recommend the Pork Belly, Chicken Parm, and Honey Custard for dessert. Top notch.

A nice surprise! – Ok...so....Im not exaggerating when I say this, but this is the best new restaurant in NY. The food is very unique and very flavorful. The ambiance very casual and the service was outstanding. Its really amazing that a new restaurant really has themselves together like this! I would recommend the lobster, corn, bacon appetizer and the Veal Chop Entree. The chef informed us that the menu would change quiet often, which makes me want to go back as soon as possible. For dessert, we had the wildflower honey cus... read more
