Oct 2025 buyer beware. Jim Butler Chesterfield . My daughter loved her salesman. However, the finance guy charged her over 7% interest when her credit score is 740. Per Google... Dealerships offer higher interest rates than you qualify for to make a profit on the loan through a practice called a "discretionary markup". The lender provides the dealer with a "buy rate" (the minimum rate for your loan), but the dealer can then increase this rate to "contract rate" to earn money from the interest spread.
