Great. What a gem.
We had a reservation for 2:45 and showed up 20 minutes early to make sure they would call us when it was ready. Someone was sitting at the table so we had to wait longer, totallly fine cause we were early. Walked around the area waiting for a call. 3:00 came and I called thinking they forgoforgot us. The person who answered said the woman was still sitting at the table so they will have to look for a solution for us. Then she put me on hold for so long that it called again. We live in NJ and only very here infrequently. On Thursday, we drove here from an attraction in PA, without a reservation and were soon taken to the table we always seem to occupy. Our Server was new that day. He was very friendly and was doing his best to be helpful. I truly hope he is successful in this position. He took our non-alcoholic drink orders as well as our dinner orders. Great experience all around. Tavern was built in 1679! Great atmosphere. Interesting menu.
An absolute gem with timeless charm! Eating here felt like stepping back into an era when good food, drinks, and socializing were the ultimate rewards after a hard day's work. We loved it so much that we ate here two out of our three nights in town. We tried the Shepherd's Pie, Pot Roast, and Fish and Chips—and ordered all of them a second time because they were so good. Add the wonderful desserts and superb service, and you have a perfect PA/Delaware dining experience. Highly recommend!
