I have some very happy clients this week. Three gentlemen who owned a convenience store/gas station came to me with a $900,000+ tax assessment. The first tax attorney they met with wanted to charge them a $25,000 retainer. I took the case for a third of that, and we got the ruling yesterday that they owe nothing! $0!!!!

Really good news for one of my clients this week. Although he is elderly, his own bad habits resulted in him owing almost $900,000 to the IRS! We did some digging, and had him re-file several tax returns. The end result: he gets a refund of $4000 and gets his passport back so he can now visit family in Europe. (most U.S. citizens don't know that once they owe $51,000, they will not be able to get or renew a passport.)

The IRS Offer in Compromise program is alive, if not well. Even though the IRS rejects the majority of the "pennies on the dollar" type of Offers that are submitted, we were successful last week in getting a settlement for a client after four years of negotiations. His tax bill started off at $1.4 million, and we settled for just over $300,000! He's anonymous, but really happy!
