Paranoid owner ruins experience – If I could give this place negative Stars I would. First off the food is seriosy overpriced. Second, the drinks are outragous and there is no happy hour. The atmosphere is a positive that is until the owner came in. He was so up the Bartenders butt that it was hard to order a drink. He was continuously asking if things had been rung in. Paranoid much? He wouldnt even give the bartender a chance to do his job before reaming him for absolutly nothing. Outragous behavior for a business owner in... read more
NEW JAKES on 9th Ave !! – Since I haven't seen an entry here for the new Jake's on 9th ave right next to Ray's Pizza...well just wanted to write a review. Beautiful bar! Marble top, 13 Tvs and whether crowded (often enough but never obnoxious) or quiet (never has that 'dead' bar feeling that makes you now want to step foot near the place) this bar is a diamond in the rough, if you live on or near 9th ave in chelsea. Stumbled upon this place not long ago and has since become my local and meeting point when hosting friends fro... read more
Nice spot to unwind – Very chill place right in the heart of midtown. Has that old polished wood New York tavern atmosphere, but without seeming stuffy. Plenty of seating. Decent pub food, a great selection of beers (Jake's Tricky Ale is the best), and very cool bartenders. Great place to go to get your pre-show on.
Perfect after-work spot – This is my regular after-work bar. Great atmosphere, unpretentious, right next to the subway and very close to MSG, Chelsea Cinemas, Gotham CC, etc. Staff is top-notch and never lets an empty glass sit too long. No ear-splitting ?music? either, so you can actually have a conversation! Three big screens at the bar with every channel on the planet available, and they will switch it to whatever you request. Saw a guy last week from Washington ask if they could find the Gonzaga game on the Seattle FOX a... read more
perfect before-and-after gotham comedy club spot!!!!!! – my friends and i had planned a girls night out at the gotham comedy club, and when we called to confirm our reservation, we asked them if they could recommend a local bar where we could "have a few" before the show. they said that jake's saloon, right next door, was THE ideal spot. they were right! went there before the show and ended up going there after as well! the bartenders were very quick and courteous, the internet jukebox lights the place up after 10pm and app ... read more
Lunch Specials like THIS for $10? Never packing lunch again! – What to say... I work in Chelsea and eating takeout every day, while great in this or any other neighborhood in New York, can really add up. I would like to think I've become an expert at better places to eat. Until I discovered Jake's Saloon. Although not much of a bar guy, I was drawn to the menu posted in their storefront. Specials - not including happy hour drink prices - looked incredibly delicious. Cajun Chicken entrees, Po'Boy sandwiches, Pasta Dishes, etc... read more
Incredible Sports and Neighborhood Bar - My New Local!! – Last minute superbowl plans in NYC are not fun! Luckily, living in Chelsea I had the pleasure of haphazardly choosing Jake?s Saloon on the corner of 23rd and 7th. What an incredible choice. If you?ve never been, this bar is set up perfectly to watch sports. The bar only has 8 huge flatscreen HD TVs ( I know... only 8!) but they are so strategically placed throughout the bar that there literally is not a bad seat in the house. I promptly sat at the bar and ordered a dr... read more
Don't start a tab – Good TVs for NFL Sunday, but DON'T start a tab with them. They will give 'buy backs' to their favored customers and put it on your tab. When questioned about tab errors they will not admit their mistakes. Buyer beware.
Really disappointing – Jake's opened a new branch on 9th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd. I got there early to watch the opening day of NFL games. The food I ordered was great, bartender was friendly, lots of flatscreens all around. But when gametime started, they couldn't figure out how to pick up the satellite feeds of out-of-town games. I'd been there for an hour, and no one tested the system. I missed the 1st quarter and I had to pay the bill, and go look for another place to watch. Oh yeah, and at the other location, the m... read more
