This is just your typical chop shop type mechanic... Dropped an old vehicle off to try and get it running. Told me it needed $2k of work. I did roughly $900 of that and then the next day he said it wouldn't start and needed a new alternator. I did that and its running okay now. He finished the alternator around 2pm that day and he said to come get it. I told him I would try to pick it up later that day or tomorrow. He said fine. I am from out of state and to register while out of state, you must provide some sort of receipt or invoice that the vehicle is not in the home state. I thought okay easy day, I can just ask these guys to perform a safety inspection really quick. Walked up and asked the first employee I saw. He didnt seem to understand what I was asking for so he grabbed someone else, I assume the owner, and I asked “can you perform an inspection”. I pulled into shop and asked the owner if he worked on all areas of the car. He said yes come by tomorrow. I told him okay. I got back into my car and the loud noise from starting my car could be heard. I suspect a bad water pump/but not sure (im a mechanic too/working 6 days a week with no tome). I know if water pump fails there goes my whole engine. I turn car off and call owner over. I ask if he'd turn the car on and listen to this noise. If he thought ot was a bad water pump.
