There is indoors seating and out doors seating the indoor seating was very tight. Other than that the food was good.
First time to try Izakaya-Wa. Arrived a few mins before their opening time on a weekday. Based on what I saw you’d think it was a family restaurant. The first 5-6 tables that were seated all had kids. I suspect that as the night progressed the clientele would skew older. Menu has a mix of more traditional izakaya dishes and Americanized sushi rolls. Tried several skewers (pork, chicken and eggplant) and fried oysters. Overall pricing seemed reasonable to me. I can see why this place is popular.
We ordered lunch special Pork Curry Rice. And asked for extra rice as there were extra curry sauce. We were not told there will be extra $3 for a tiny bowl of steam rice. So I asked the waitress why I wasn’t informed the price when we order. Her answer is it’s on the menu, everything has extra charge here. The lunch special menu never stated this and I don’t appreciate the answer. It’s not about how much it’s about the genuine service. Izakaya-Wa hits all the right notes for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience. The Katsu Karee perfectly satisfied a very specific craving: the pork was lightly fried and crispy, served over rice with savory karee and a bright pop of pickled umeboshi.
