In 1974, Ralph and Janet Iwen, started Iwen Tool Supply Company as a sole proprietorship. Ralph continued his position at RICO Tool Company. Ralph started RICO in 1952 and sold it in 1967. Ralph and his son-in-law Ermin Sallmen, worked part-time in the bedroom at a desk with a phone on either side. In 1983, Ermin began full-time as an outside sales representative.
