I was forced to pay a $250 out of pocket expense when I checked in for my “free” colonoscopy screening. Kim the office manager explained that it is payment in advance for the possibility of a polyp removal and that I would be reimbursed if the gastroenterologist does not find any polyps. A Blue Cross Blue Shield representative told me that Island Digestive Health Center could legally ask for upfront fees, and she confirmed that it would cost me $250 if I had any polyps removed. This was my second colonoscopy at Island Digestive. I had a 6:15 am appointment and got in right away. The receptionist, Dr Lobo, all the nurses and the anesthesiologist were all great! The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was because the person who drove you, in my case my wife, was not allowed in the waiting area. Five years ago it was no issue. This is a Five star review. This was my first time getting a colonoscopy. From the greeting you get from Kim and the smooth check in process to zero wait time. Wonderful! Next I got called in and met all these wonderful and caring nurses. Gina, Nicole, and Mary and Carol. Thank you ladies!!! You all deserve raises and extra vacation time.
