The Iowa State Fairgrounds was originally the Charles Thornton Farmstead and has been the home of the rewnoned Iowa State Fair since 1886. Spread across 435 acres (176.03 hectares), these sprawling grounds also have historic buildings and are registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The busy bodies running the deserted campground continuosly harassed me for not owning an RV. There are no written rules explicitly against using a tent to camp there but great great grandpa and grandpa running the show will not allow it. I run a fuel efficient vehicle for my camping trips but the boomers runnimg this place only appreciate gas guzzling RVs. Avoid camping here and the pouty personalities that run it
