Interim…I wanted to take some time to thank you for always being there when I had questions. You never dismissed my concerns. During my employment, I was assigned to a patient who was total care and had a tracheostomy. After reviewing the care needs, I realized that trach care was expected as part of the assignment. As I understand it, tracheostomy cleaning and airway management are nursing responsibilities and cannot be performed by a provider/CNA. I contacted the supervisor to inform her that I was not comfortable performing trach care because it is outside my scope of practice.
