Although it’s not the worst mental hospital experience I’ve had, the prevailing apathy and disdain shown towards the patients is troubling and speaks to bigger issues. With a few notable exceptions (like Raymond, he needs a raise), nurses seemed to either not know we existed or actively despise and look down on us. Almost all the nurses are awful and clearly don’t see patients as actual people. It’s almost impressive how little they listen to patients. They look down on them and treat them like nuisances instead of people suffering severe mental illness.
Voluntarily admitted myself due to intrusive thoughts and passive suicidal thoughts I believed were genuine suicidal ideation. Staff did not believe me when I told them I wasn't suicidal. I kept asking for something to write with because I was having a panic attack and was too stressed from the previous night in the ER to give verbal answers. I just got out of there and it definitely helped. They do need more activities and therapists during the day but overall it wasn't that bad. The techs were nice, nurses were iffy. Amanda the night nurse was my favorite. My Dr. Was great and friendly and the food was OK for hospital food.
This has to be THE WORST place to send your loved ones. Do not do it. Communication sucks, staff are clearly just there for a check with no bedside manner, and do not advocate for the patients. As a family member, I was horrified at the treatment and felt helpless. There was NO ONE behind those walls that we could get assistance from. And mind you, it was the most basic of issues.
