About this business

The aromas alone will draw you into this richly colored restaurant called the India Bistro. The food is traditional Indian cuisine, which includes tandoori chicken, lamb, seafood, chutneys, Kashmiri chicken and more, all seasoned to your liking. Try the naan, which is a warm, soft flat bread, perfect for dousing the heat of spicy curry dishes. This smoke-free restaurant also has an outdoor dining area.

best indian cuisine in seattle – i've gone to eat dinner here several times and have never been disappointed. i've never, ever been the least bit disappointed with their food. however, the space is a little crowded, and is definately not good for big groups. the wait times for a friday or saturday night is usually upwards of 45minutes, but it's just enough time to run across the street to the matador, grab a drink, and get back just in time (india bistro only serves a small selection of wines and no other types of alcohol). ... read more

Disappointing – It is surprising to see such great reviews. Maybe it was just not my lucky day. Seeing that it was rated as Seattle's top 10 and the fact that we were starving and being Indian havent eaten Indian food for days, we decided to drive 40 mins from our hotel room to check it out. Initially it seemed ok...No matter what I've never hated any Indian place I've eaten until now. Seeing an eclectic mixture of people we requested a spicy meal....and it was as if we slapped ourselves in the because apparantly they had em... read more

Great food/Reasonable prices – Its about time I write this; India Bistro has been a favorite of mine for years. Firstly the food is outstanding. In addition to that, the warm/casual atmosphere, super-friendly staff and ultra-reasonable prices should put this on your list of regular restaurants to go to. I'm no Indian food afficianado but the food at this place trumps or is at the same level as Indian Oven in SF and Vij's in Vancouver without the price tag. Order what we order; lamb korma (best sauce/they should bottle this a... read more

Dinner was great – The dinner menu is extensive and includes traditional Indian dishes that can be made as spicey or mild as you like (they ask if you want mild, medium, hot or extra hot). We had original nan (they offer 10 varieties of Indian breads priced from $1.95 to $2.95 and one order is big enough for two to share - easily). We ordered Mattar Paner and Aloo Gobhi - both of which was excellent. The meals are served with a generous portion of Basmati rice. Tip: try their chai - it's a little sweet but very good. I alrea... read more

Pretty Good, not Great – Let me just give my disclaimer first, I've only eaten at the buffet, so this does not represent what one may get at dinner. Let me say that the buffet was remarkably small. About 6 dishes and a salad/desert table. Not sure if that is typical in Seattle, but in the Bay Area one could expect 5-6 meat dishes and 8-10 vegetarian dishes. Besides this the food was tasty. Not spicy at all, which was disappointing to me, but reasonably good. The worst part was my lunch being ruined by two loud, know-it-all b... read more

Always good, and enough to eat! – Have been there many times, and never been disappointed. The food has always been very tasty, and plenty. Staff has been friendly, and prompt. It's always very busy, so be prepared to wait.

Editorial Review by Hannah Levin – A cozy and romantic Indian bistro in the heart of Old Ballard serving traditional tandoor dishes, curries and more.

Never Disappoints – We've been here several times and no matter how busy they are (which is practically always), the food and service never disappoints. We always enjoy anything from the tandoori oven and the naan breads. The wait for a table is never too long and the atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. Service is always quick and attentive.
