Ikea used to be the place you went to buy a cheap modern or standard piece of furniture. The prices have gone up significantly and this location has the highest sales tax anywhere in the U.S. (10.5%). You can still get a good deal on lighting, organizing shelves, and artwork, but the furniture is no longer a deal. A standard poor quality dining chair you have to put together yourself is $79 or more + tax. You can get a leather parsons dining chair for that price at several furniture stores & websites. We live 100 miles away from Ikea in Schaumburg and had long wanted to visit the store. We were impressed by the size and offerings of items at the store, as well as what seemed like decent prices at first, but unfortunately had several poor experiences there. We bought 2 dressers on our visit. The first had one little part missing that we were able to pick up at our local hardware store.
