The floors in our dining room and hallway had deep scratches from the dogs and a big water stain near the kitchen where the dishwasher leaked a while back. I figured we'd have to replace the whole thing but Oscar took a look and said he could sand it out and refinish. Our hardwood floors had gotten dull and scratched up over the years, and the refinishing made a huge difference. The color looks richer now and the finish came out smooth without that overly shiny plastic look. A couple rough spots near the hallway also got repaired so the floor feels even when you walk across it. The rooms look cleaner and brighter now, and the floors finally match the rest of the house again.
Took us a while to pull the trigger on refinishing because we kept hearing horror stories about the mess and the smell. Got three estimates and Oscar's was in the middle price-wise but the guy who came out actually answered my questions instead of giving me a sales pitch. Scheduling took a couple weeks which was fine, and once they started they kept me updated each day on where they were at. Whole job wrapped up sooner than I thought. Floors are gorgeous, really happy we did it.
They installed engineered hardwood through our main floor, about 900 square feet. The install itself was clean and they did a good job working around the weird angle where the kitchen meets the dining room, which I was worried about because the previous flooring there always looked off. Color matches well with the stair treads we already had, which was something I specifically asked about during the estimate. Floors feel solid underfoot, no squeaks.
