Huntsville Utilities, owned by the city of Huntsville, Ala., is organized into three separate and distinct systems: gas, water and electricity. The three systems operate under three different boards of directors, but share top management, customer service, meter reading, billing, accounting, and purchasing operations and personnel. The company purchases its electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority and its natural gas from producers in the Gulf of Mexico. Its water comes from underground aquifers and the Tennessee Rive... read more

Can charge anyone what ever they choose. Last two bills were between $45 and $58 then out of the blue $131. They responded I guess you used more wattage than the previous months. Im there 4 days a week and turn air down when I leave.? I guess it was my turn to get screwed by Huntsville Utilities. Look out!
Instead of giving yourself huge bonuses, why don't you upgrade the infrastructure? I have never seen so many power outages.

Dear ************************* (we're guessing based on the email address, please forgive any errors),We realize the weather and events of last Saturday were extremely inconvenient for customers, especially considering the fact that it was also Christmas Eve. Not only did the extremely low temperatures and corresponding record-high demand cause some service issues, but Huntsville Utilities was also subject to mandatory reductions by TVA, exacerbating the problems. We thank you for your patience and for reaching out with your... read more
The way this company has a monopoly strong hold on Madison County residents is ridiculous. I live in North Huntsville and we are subject to the most constant power outage. Huntsville Utilities doesn't care about their customers and how they are treated because they know that we have no choice when it comes to choosing them as our electricity provider. I've never been more constantly dissatisfied with a company, the weekly power outages have become too much at this point.
I too think the 300$ +70$ charge to transfer utilities into my name from my ex's name is way too much. Have lived here and paid this utility bill for 36 years (automatic withdrawal) wish someone would look into the cost of this. Also very displeased with them spraying tree line about 5 yrs ago. Spray had never been used before, they had always cut the limbs. This killed about 17 dogwoods that grew and bloomed along this line. I had waited my entire life, finally retired, to see these bloom and now they are all dead. The effe... read more
A corrupt place of business. They dig up your whole family tree too see who you're related too. If someone your related too or friends with had a bad experience with them they will not do business with you and hold you accountable for that other person bill even if you wasn't a co-signer. You can talk to five different people and get six different answers.
The billing system Huntsville Utilities has in place is extremely difficult to work with a schedule. When I receive my bill I do not have a month to pay it like I do with all my other bills. Additionally, I did not receive a bill in the mail this last time and got a notice this past Saturday that my utilities were subject to being cut off if payment was not received by today. That did not allow sufficient time for payment to mailed, at minimum they should have provided at least a week in this situation and customers should h... read more
Business response:
Invoices for monthly service allow the customer 15 to 18 days to submit payment for services rendered. When necessary, a "Final Notice", regarding delinquent payments, is mailed more than a week in advance to ensure our customers are given sufficient notice of pending disconnects. For convenience and expediency, customers can view and pay online at no extra charge. We also offer the option to Pay By Text, which will send the customer a reminder "text" 7 days before their invoice is due. Various payment options are available ... read more
