lived in a co-op for years and kept in touch a few more. there isn't enough time in the world to lay out the rampant issues within the shc. unsafe, expensive for what you get, and unable to improve. pay more to live somewhere else, it's worth it.
I do think that Spartan Housing cooperative is doing their best, but my only suggestion would be to pay attention to the Lansing community co-ops just as much as the ones in East Lansing. Otherwise, it's an excellent organization for people wanting to find not just affordable housing, but with democratic decision making.
Lived in the SHC for most of my college years (and some non-college years too). Solid community with great people. The cooperative pricing was definitely appreciated too.
