1 Star My experience with the Steve O’Neill Apartments has been extremely disappointing and has placed my family in a very difficult situation. I was originally told a unit would be ready for my family on March 12. That date was later changed to March 16 at 1 PM. My family is currently staying in a domestic violence shelter, and our required move-out date is March 17 at noon, so we were relying on this housing being available. I'm concerned about the direction this organization is moving. Duluth is nicely spread out in neighborhoods and green spaces. Yes, we have a shortage of housing, but relaxing the building codes or population density or imposing in the green space around our beautiful iconic parks would be a shame. Preserving the quality of life we have established here and preserving our historic homes. My viewpoint is very different than the focusvof HRA. I’ve lived at Fairmont Cottages Rentals in Duluth, MN, and unfortunately, the experience has been overwhelmingly disappointing. While the units are new and the grounds are beautiful, those are the only real positives. The cottages are extremely overpriced for what you get — small 620-720 sq. ft. units that are smaller than the average apartment. We were told by management that winter electric heating would top out around $200/month. That was completely misleading. In reality, it has cost as much as $300–$400/month during col... read more
