Decidedly average – Hot Cakes is OK if you are hungry and just want to get food into you. The staff sure are friendly but often too busy to pay much attention to all their tables - it can take 15-20 minutes before one even gets to order. I don't blame that on the staff though - they really do their best and are very professional. The food is really average - no culinary flair going on here. I think 'pedestrian' is a good descriptive. Don't bother – There's a reason it's located across from a hospital! It used to be good, with fresh items on the menu but now it's just like any other greasy spoon. The service is spotty and the food is mediocre. Also, certain wait staff actually complain about a 20 percent tip! These people are lucky they have jobs, with all of the great brunch options in Denver. Do yourself a favor and just skip it.

Decent Quick Breakfast Eats – This was my first visit to Hot Cakes and I wasn't incredibly impressed. The food that our group got was all good. I had the Midwestern Skillet which had a great overall taste but I was a little disappointed in the blandness of the gravy. My wife got the Heath Nutty Pancakes and loved them. The biggest strike against Hot Cakes was the coffee. The coffee that we had was weak and lacked the bold flavor you expect from a good breakfast joint.
