Traditionally in North America we have installed most slate roofs with 2 nails per slate, while in Europe many of the slate roofs have been installed with hooks for more than 300 years (before the American Revolution). During a recent tour in Europe it was explained that France is the largest slate roofing consumer in the world and their most common installation is a hooked slate installation.
