As a loyal Hilton member who travels a lot for work and play, I was very disappointed with my stay at Homewood Suites in Sarasota. Its saving grace was the friendliness of the staff. The reason for my 1 star review is because some sort of “bug” ate me alive during the night. I woke up several times scratching myself and found multiple bites all over my body in the morning while showering. Just thinking about it now makes me itch. Guests beware!
The rooms are clean and spacious but the hotel is a bit dated and has an interesting U shaped layout with a courtyard setting. It is similar to an older motel where the lobby is separated from the rest of the hotel and you pull your car around after checking in. Since the rooms are interior this seemed to cause long walks to the elevator, parking, breakfast, etc. The breakfast was good but there was no hot water and I had to take a cold shower, never pleasant.
We had a one bedroom suite & it exceeded our expectations. We're used to staying at resorts & so visiting this hotel was a surprisingly comparable stay. The check in process was easy, everything was clean. The walk to the room from the few entry doors is a bit inconvenient but it is just how the building was built. Rooms were decently clean and spacious. However the lack of blackout shades makes it a non-starter for me **Update: Someone from the front desk called to explain that the room does have black out curtains but the are hidden. I'm not sure how thats possible. She also explained this is a known issue with guests, yet its still allowed to happen. Maybe they can post a video of this complicated curtain contraption
