The worst closing I have ever dealt with in all my real estate dealings. This was the worst absolute worst. It was a nightmare. Unprofessional behavior that was allowed and not dealt with. I am in the process of selling a lot and Hometown Title in Port Charlotte, FL wrote up a draft of a title. First they said - not the person I purchased from but 2 owners ago had issues with their deed. Both people are dead now and they are asking me to do a probate. Then on the draft they included this dead person who now twice removed, on my title as her still having claim to half my land and that is not true. The realtor sent this same contract to a real estate attorney to obtain a second opinion for her. I have found the staff at Hometown title to be above par on service, commitment, and knowledge. Nacole went out of her way to facilitate a very complicated closing(2) and I couldn't be happier with the results. She even squared away the other title company and got things straightened out for the other closing that wasn't even hers. Any and all future transactions in Florida probably will be through Hometown title. I couldn't be happier. ****** *.

As Canadians we had sold our condo and closed with Hometown Closing a year ago. We were instructed by them that we had to complete a form 8288B regarding Capital Gains/Income Tax. We did complete all with our Accounting Firm in Canada immediately. We discovered that after about 8 mths later that Hometown and specifically at the discretion of the owner, that the buyer was instructed directly by the owner to NOT fill out the 8288 and 8288B. When the contract came into the office for closing we realized the sellers were foreign so we started the conversation about the Foreign Withholding Tax. This is very similar to US taxpayers' capital gain and since Title Companies are not qualified to prepare income tax forms, we referred him to two local CPA firms. We explained whoever he decides on they need to be familiar with the Internal Revenue Service in the US to facilitate his tax return.
