Its a bad ass old time hotel. No tv, no a/c, no BS. It forces you outside like a colorado hotel should. Comfy beds and hot showers. Fantastic price. Yes it probably haunted. But not by any evil ghosts. Great family run establishment. Plus its the largest wooded old structure west of the mississippi. Love this place. PS, if you're a pretentious prick from telluride dont bother.
Yes, it is "rustic", but out dated is more appropriate. Some windows are caulked closed, so it was hot in the room. The door to go to the balcony was also caulked shut, so the only way to go out was via a window. The Saloon was not open any of the time we were there, others then for a private function. Also, it was very rare to find someone working. The front door was open for a few hours a day to welcome insiders for check in. We traveled a lot of places in Colorado 2012. This unexpected stop at the Western Hotel was our most memorable. We'll be going back July 2015.

Very nostalgic !! Which I like! Great price & in the heart of Ouray- let's face it , you just need a place to shower & sleep & the Restaurant is a late night fav! Don't forget the Jeep tour! Place takes you back in time- or you can pay 3-4 times as much down the street for something newer- sleep & shower the same. Ben. Fort Worth TX
It is just the way it was at the beginning of the 20th century. Community bathrooms. But at $45 a night when every other hotel in the area of $200. I was more than happy. Has a Faulty Tower type of feel.
