As a mechanical engineer, I have to say square barrels are unbelievably unsound and inefficient. Round barrels at perfectly designed to withstand any sudden shock from any angle. The metal band heat shrunk into the barrel provides sustained pressure to the painstakingly designed staves. Simply put, square barrels are just poorly constructed box or steamer trunk. But I liked the garlic fries.
