Recently had my 2020 Tacoma serviced here. I discover that the wrong oil was used in my transfer case. Toyota specifies 75W GL-4 for this application, but the dealership installed 80W-90 GL-5 instead. GL-5 gear oil contains high levels of sulfur-phosphorus additives, which are not compatible with the yellow metal/brass synchronizers in transfer cases and can lead to corrosion and long-term damage. We stopped by Hertrich this past weekend so my wife could test drive a Tacoma. We were fairly early in the shopping process. As someone who spent almost a decade in the retail automotive business ( a long time ago!), I have pretty high standards when it comes to judging the buying experience.
