Just reading the reviews of others who were unlucky enough to waste their time there and am shocked by the similarities in my experience. I sat at the bar with my friend and watched a female bartender threaten and "warn" two customers within the span of 30 minutes for doing nothing wrong. Then me and my friend are dancing with some girls and i go to buy us all a round and she tells me they are cut off and does not give a valid reason. Awful Experience - Avoid this place like the plague – We stopped by Hennessey's on November 21, 2009 during a bachelorette party for a very dear friend. All ten of us were let in and they only charged 8 of us a cover fee. The atmosphere was bland but the band was really good! The crowd was AWFUL! We were with guests from out of town and decided to stop in for a few drinks, after standing in the SAME spot for a few hours and just having a good time, out of NO where, one of the members of our group gets pushed and punched...out of NO WHERE! Terrible Pint! – If you like your pint of Guinness - avoid this place at all costs. I don't see how this place got voted best Irish pub in Boston if they can't even pour a decent pint. First of all it was in a regular (American) pint glass, which means you get short served. Secondly, it tasted like muck - couldn't even finish it. I was even more surprised when it was the Irish (also a Dub I believe) bartender that gave me this. Save your money and head a couple of doors down to Blackstone's - much better!
One word Horrible – Hello, I usually do not do this but I had one of the most terrible experience at this bar. A bunch of us went out bar hoping on Saturday night and ended up at Hennssey's around 10 oclock. After waiting in line we got in. The bouncers were very rude and looked over my id and my gf id a couple of times (both valid Ma Ids). Once inside, I went to the bar to get a couple of drinks, which took me at least 15 mins to get. Great Nighttime Spot – This is a great place to go in downtown that's a guaranteed good time. I have gone here many a Saturday night and always had a good time. They usually have live bands on the weekend that play great music you can dance to. Defnitely get there on the early side because the lines at the door can get pretty long. The drinks are priced pretty well for downtown and the faneuil hall area especially. They often have beer specials too so be sure to ask the bartender. Worst staff on the planet – This place is horrible, after recounting my nightmare here I've heard nothing but other horror stories from friends. The staff was rude from the moment I reached the entrance, giving me a lot of static for my license, which is a valid MA license. After showing them the contents of my wallet, I finally got inside. Having a great time with my friends was ended when a bartender came over saying it was my 'final warning', a warning for what, I'm still not sure. Awful Food and Service – The waitstaff was very unfriendly and unattentive. My drink was flat, so I asked for a new one, only to receive another flat, and watery one this time. I got some $15 platter, with very few items that were small and burnt. Oh, and the table was dirty when we sat down. I wouldn't recommend this place if you like good food and service.
