Do NOT do a consult w/Dr. Thakar, I wasted a year on this Dr's waitlist. During that time I was told to update my Gender Affirming Care Letter (GACL) FOUR TIMES. They require a new one every six months, minimum, and often ask for updates more frequently than that. Dr. Thakar also has the worst written communication style of any doctor I have met. Thakar's work has been incredible. She is widely known and regarded in Portland as an excellent surgeon, and her team is respectful, proactive, communicative, and kind. I have been treated with nothing but respect and EXCITEMENT from her team! I feel so honored to be in Portland to be among the many who have had their lives changed by them. One of the best experiences I’ve had with a doctor. Dr. Thakar and their team have taken such good care of me, Andy is great and so kind. I have severe medical trauma as an autistic person and this solved a lot of that. I have been treated so kindly, no comments about my weight other than telling me I’m a “pretty healthy young person” which almost made me cry when I’m 32 and I’ve been told to lose weight so many times by medical professionals even though I’m not even that overweight. My surgery journey is my own and I won’t share that on here because I want others to make the best decision for themselves. Dr. T knew about my extensive traumatic background, and she kept me informed on what would be happening, Dr. T and the rest of the team stayed along side me.
