Tried to make appt, i have tricare standard, in which you do not need a referral to see specialist. Apparently this office does not know this and kept insisting that i would need a referral. The unnamed woman at counter kept raising her voice insisting i would need a referral from pcm (which i dont need or have on standard) to be able to make an appt. Completly unacceptable to have a Doctor’s office not know how your insurance works, or worse insist they know when you are very clear you are able

I'm sorry to hear this, but yes Dr. Colon does require a referral from a primary doctor even if the insurance does not. Several reasons, but mainly he has a lot of active patients and to do a complete workup on headaches to only to find the patient has un-diagnosed high blood pressure is a waste of the patient, doctor and insurance money. Second Dr. Colon is VERY thorough, if he finds something non neurological but needs care you need to have a doctor in place.
DR. COLON AND ALL HIS STAFF ARE THE BEST. I HAVE BEEN SEEING THEM SINCE 2006!
In my long life (83) I have visited myriad of physicians, both while in the Military, in US civilian life and civilian life in foreign countries. I can honestly say that I have never seen an examination more thorough, explained in minute details, and conducted in a professional manner than the one I witness Dr. Colon perform on my wife for her condition or any condition I ever had. He spent one hour and ten minutes examining my wife for her nerves problems. His staff reflects his professionalism
I felt like the Dr was thorough and not dismissive of my concerns.The day after the MRI he ordered, my back went out completely. I was in severe pain and immobilized over the weekend. When I called on Monday to try to get a stat appt with the Dr, or at least have him check my MRI results asap, I was told I would have to get another referral from my PCP, which is not required by my ins, its just their policy. Never notified of my MRI results. I'm not jumping through hoops and wasting $ for them.
