Disappointed With Hawaiian Electric's Response to a Public Safety Concern Today, while driving on Farrington Highway between Kaukamana and Hakimo Road in Waianae, I noticed a utility pole swaying noticeably back and forth. This company has a monopoly on power here in Hawaii. They exist to keep fixing the mistakes they never choose to fix. Power lines go out every month, 1-2 times, a month due to falling trees on the mountain. They refuse to do anything proactive in protecting them and just wait till they fall to keep fixing them. They say it's a liability issue. Just sucks they had poor planning here in Hawaii.
I understand Hurricane Lala can cause damage and delays. Where I live, we lost power on Saturday at 11am and we were one of the very first. Its now Monday evening going into Tuesday about 100k residences have been fixed but were still down. No hot water, food is spoiled, and no true updates by location. All they keep posting is "estimated time for restoration = unavailable". The governor and state need to demand better. But then again, all the governor thinks about is tourism. On island time … is when they fix things. An incompetent monopoly.
Power is literally ALWAYS going off whenever it's rainy/windy and would be off for 8+ hours as well. Stop putting bandaids on it and actually fix+spend more money to prevent this stuff from happening. Power has gone off so many times this year it's actually ridiculous. We pay so many taxes and y'all can't even eat your shi straight. U guys literally up'd the price of electric as well and FOR WHAT, can't even turn it on half the time
